Talented artists from Abbey College Manchester have been highly praised for their exceptional creative talents, securing a series of coveted accolades in a prestigious, national art challenge.
Students and alumni from our thriving Art Department took home a series of trophies collected across various categories in the highly-anticipated Independent Schools Association Art Competition. Gifted designer Buntarika was presented with the First Place prize in the KS4 Fashion and Accessories category for her breathtaking creation ‘Ceremony’. She spoke of her success and said: “I am very surprised and pleased that the outfit I produced for my GCSE Textile coursework won first prize. This accomplishment is definitely going on my university personal statement!”
In another highlight Adriana, who is now studying Art History and Curation at York University, secured Second Place in the KS5 Sketchbook category for her deeply personal work, Perfectionism. Adriana commented on her artwork: “Simply titled ‘Perfectionism,’ my work reflects who I am as a person, dealing with this difficult trait throughout my life. I am so proud of this win.”
Also highly commended was Nikolas in Year 12, whose masterpiece ‘Rain’ was recognised in the KS4 photography category. Commenting on his achievement, he said: “I’m honoured to have my work recognised in the ISA Arts Prize. I worked hard to capture this image, and I’m so pleased it’s been appreciated.”
The national success follows hot on the heels of the college’s achievements in the regional heat, the ISA North Region Art Competition, where four first-place awards were secured, in addition to three well-deserved second-place finishes.
Principal of Abbey College Manchester, Chris Randell commented: “We are exceptionally proud of our hard-working and gifted students. Showcasing the exceptional creativity and talent fostered within our school community, these achievements reflect the dedication, talent and passion that defines our students and the extraordinary support from our Creative Arts staff.
“Our college’s reputation for excellence in the Creative Arts is strongly affirmed by these impressive accomplishments.”
